One of the defining reality shows of the last decade, Keeping up with the Kardashians is renowned for bringing the drama. And sisters Kim and Kourtney have been responsible for much of it. Yet the socialites took things so far during one particular shoot that they even shocked the show’s producers.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians was first broadcast on the E! network in October 2007 and became an instant hit. The reality show follows the fortunes of the titular and hugely wealthy family led by Kris Jenner. By the time the first season wrapped up, siblings Kim, Kourtney and Khloé – not to mention their half-sisters Kylie and Kendall – had become famous stars.

The girls’ brother Rob and father Caitlyn Jenner also appeared often in the show’s early years. And many of the cast’s respective partners – including Scott Disick, Kris Humphries and Tristan Thompson – were also thrust into the limelight. Other notable regulars include Caitlyn’s sons Brody and Brandon and Kim and Khloé’s BFFs Jonathan Cheban and Malika Haqq.

By offering a peek into how the other half live, Keeping Up with the Kardashians quickly became the must-watch aspirational show. But the press hasn’t been as enamored with all the glitz and glamor as the general public. Many of its biggest detractors have criticized the manipulated drama on display and how the family have risen to fame without any considerable talent.

Nevertheless, the Kardashian media empire has continued to expand with various spinoffs. Kourtney and Kim took center stage in two shows capturing their adventures in Miami and New York. But even though the sisters are extremely close, they have still had their fair share of ups and downs over the years.

Things started to go particularly awry between the pair in 2018 following a dispute over a Christmas card family photoshoot. After Kourtney failed to show up, Kim described her sister as the “least interesting to look at.” Never one to take things lying down, Kourtney fired back by calling the eldest Kardashian “evil.”

And their relationship got even rockier when Kourtney also bailed on the baby shower for Kim’s third child with husband Kanye West. “I really hoped Kourtney was gonna get over herself and just show up, but she didn’t,” admitted Kim. “So I don’t think she’s big on family because if she was, she would be at my shower.”

Despite appearing to distance herself from the rest of her family, Kourtney claimed she was “definitely proud to be a Kardashian” in a chat with E! News. But she also explained why she decided to take a step back. She said, “Every day, almost, I was being picked on and criticized and I just couldn’t take it anymore.”

Just a few days later, Kim and Kourtney once again aired their dirty laundry in public with an argument on Twitter. The feud began when the former brought up all the drama about the photoshoot and baby shower. Kourtney responded, “We all have our own priorities. Mine is being a mother.”

An angry Kim replied, “My number one priority is being a mother as well, and I can work, too, so can you.” Kourtney then responded, “Being a good mother also has different meanings to each of us. You’re an amazing mother, I’m not taking that away from you.” She later added, “I don’t accept the way we criticize and judge each other anymore. My personal growth doesn’t allow it.”

That same week, the sisters could also be seen arguing in a new scene from Keeping Up with the Kardashians. And the issue was a familiar one. Kourtney told Kim, “Everything to you guys, the show is more important, work is more important. We all have different priorities and working, it’s not my top priority. It’s never going to be.”

However, Kim argued that she and her other family members were simply being more professional. The socialite said that Kourtney “can’t commit to filming a season and sharing her life if she’s not going to at all. We just want her to be held accountable and be responsible – that when you take a job and are getting paid to do something, you honor that. Because all of us do.”

In another clip from the popular reality show, Khloé tries to act as a peacemaker between her two squabbling sisters. However, Kourtney seems far more interested in her phone than patching things up. As a result, Khloe remarks, “Okay, well, I’m not investing myself, so you can f*** off then.”

And in an outtake that was later made available online, a foul-mouthed Khloé comes up with an idea of how to deal with Kourtney’s behavior. The socialite tells Kim, “She could f***ing shove Kardashian up her f***ing vagina. No one cares. We should say, ‘Oh, you don’t want to be a Kardashian? Let’s pull all of your Kardashian privileges.’”

Then there was the time when Kim took umbrage with both of her sisters’ fashion choices during a trip to Tokyo. She said, “They’re just, like, completely clashing and making my outfit look really bad and they’re ruining everything. I couldn’t even eat dinner because I was so disgusted.” Kourtney responded, “You think I look like a clown? Well, you look like you just won the Tour de France and you’re cycling around town.”

While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show, Kim took another swipe at Kourtney, this time over her apparent ruthlessness. In fact, the star claimed that Kourtney would be the family member most likely to file a lawsuit against her. The star also told Kimmel that she was once forced to negotiate financial terms with her sister after using her likeness in a video game.

Things between the pair appeared to calm down over the next nine months – publicly, at least. But the pair could be seen reigniting their feud in explosive fashion in September 2019 in an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Kim describes Kourtney as a “fake humanitarian ho” during an argument about their philanthropic endeavors.

Just two months later Kourtney confirmed that she would be stepping away from her family’s reality show in an awkward chat alongside her sisters. She told Entertainment Tonight, “I just decided to spend more time as a mom and put more of my energy there. But I’m not saying goodbye. But I think you’ll have to see more of it on the new season, season 18. It isn’t airing yet, but it’s being filmed. Currently, in this room.”

Unsurprisingly, Kim and Khloé didn’t appear too thrilled by this development. And in another episode of their hit show, the pair criticize Kourtney for refusing to expose her every waking moment to the public. The two siblings argued that their workload will now increase significantly as a result of Kourtney stepping back.

Khloé also discussed her disappointment with Kourtney while live-tweeting an episode of KUWTK in December 2019. She said, “If we all started concealing major areas of our life, then what would there be to film? I’m completely okay with people having boundaries but you have to be present in the areas you’re willing to share.”

Kim also threatened to give the most reluctant KUWTK star the boot from the show in a volatile FaceTime chat. Kourtney responded, “If Kim thinks she has the power to fire me from our family show? It’s just crazy. It’s just, sometimes we need a break and I don’t want to film with Kim.”

Mother Kris valiantly tried to smooth things over between her feuding children on a group excursion to Wyoming. And, initially, her efforts seemed to actually have worked. Khloé admitted that she needed to stop reacting so intensely to Kourtney. And Kim also recognized that her behavior can sometimes be too callous.

Unfortunately, this truce didn’t appear to last too long. In February 2020 Kim appeared on the podcast All’s Fair with Laura Wasser where she admitted that she’d recently had an altercation with Kourtney that became “a little violent.” The star also quipped that she “might need an attorney” when the scene airs in KUWTK’s season 18 premiere.

The high drama began when Kim and Kourtney yet again started squabbling about their differing work ethics. In the offending scene, the former starts talking about half-sister Kylie calling off a prior engagement due to ill health. She claims, “If I were on my deathbed, I would still show up.”

After implying that only Khloé would do the same out of the Kardashian brood, Kendall wades in, responding, “Are you f***ing kidding me? Like, I literally will come at you right now… I work my f***ing ass off whether I’m sick or not.” However, Kendall’s reaction was nothing compared to Kourtney’s.

A furious Kourtney told Kim, “You act like I don’t do s***. You have this narrative in your mind… I will literally f*** you up if you mention it again. I work my f***ing ass off. But also, if I didn’t want to work my ass off and I wanted to be a stay-at-home mum, that’s f***ing fine, you f***ing literal ass.”

Much to everyone’s shock, the sisters’ beef then got physical. Following a bout of shoving each other, Kim slapped Kourtney as she shouted, “I swear to God, I’ll punch you in your face.” Kourtney then goaded her sister by asking her to “do it or shut the f*** up.” The fight is then interrupted by the show’s credits, with the warning that there was more to follow.

And that wasn’t a false promise. In the following episode, we see Kourtney lobbing a bottle of water at Kim and the pair trading blows with each other. The latter also starts to bleed after being scraped by her sister. The fight became so intense that producers decided to call time on the shoot to help the sisters cool off.

After taking some much-needed time out, Kim and Kourtney later reflect on how things escalated so quickly. The latter explained that she was finding life on the reality show very difficult. She said, “Do you think I want to come into this negative environment with you guys every f***ing day? Like, it’s torture.”

Khloé, who was also part of the conversation, then asked, “But, how did we even get on this? I thought we were talking about Kendall.” This infuriated Kourtney who yelled, “Oh my god. We’ve moved on. We’re done! That conversation’s done. Because every day, it’s your f***ing attitude and your f***ing attitude!”

Kourtney then claims that the sisters’ relationships are so much stronger away from the cameras. She tells Khloé, “When I don’t see you at filming, we are completely fine when we’re not in this environment.” However, Kim isn’t satisfied with this explanation and tells Kourtney, “Actually, you should go.” Walking out the door, Kourtney tells Kim, “I don’t want to be around your fat ass.”

In her confessional, Kourtney revealed that she was upset with her sisters’ reactions to her viewpoint. She tells the cameras, “I don’t understand why there’s all of this judgement about the way that we each want to live our lives. We should be accepted for what we each want to do and it’s not a positive environment for me to want to be in every day.”

Kourtney went on to add, “Every day that I’m coming in, I’m like ‘Why am I choosing to be in this environment?’ I think I just reached my point of not being able to tolerate it anymore.” Unsurprisingly, Kim and Khloé also had plenty to say in their own confessionals.

Khloé said, “I think Kim and I both are really surprised as to how things escalated so quickly. We don’t know where all of this has come from. We know there’s been friction recently, but I don’t think any of us knew it was this bad and heavy. It’s really surprising that it’s gone this far.”

Kim later addressed the incident during an appearance on The Tonight Show: Home Edition. She told Jimmy Fallon, “It was pretty intense, I feel it was a lot of built-up resentment from Kourtney or just feeling like she doesn’t want to film anymore. She’s not the type of person to make a decision, and say ‘Okay guys, I’m not going to film,’ but she would come to work with an attitude every day.”

According to Kim, Kourtney would then “kind of take it out on everyone and the crew and to us and wouldn’t really make that decision. So we would kind of like keep on pushing her, to figure out why she was so unhappy.” Kim also revealed their mother Kris was left distraught after watching footage of the brawl.

Kim explained, “When my mom saw that, a clip of that, she cried. And was like, ‘Who are you guys? Like what is going on?’ Kourtney and I are obviously fine now, but we shut down production for a week after that. I think everybody was really shook for a minute, and just was like ‘this isn’t our type of show, what’s happening?’ We want everyone to be comfortable and safe.”

“It’s not my proudest moment,” Kim admitted, before adding, “But we were going through it.” Referring to Kourtney’s decision to take some time out from KUWTK, the star said, “I think she really needs it and I think that will be so much better for her.” And Kourtney herself echoed this sentiment in a tweet she posted before the fight aired.

Kourtney wrote, “I won’t be live tweeting KUWTK tonight, as I’m spending time with my kids while they are on spring break. I realize that a lot of the conversation right now surrounds my work ethic, and I feel like I need to just make one thing clear: raising children is a job as well. In fact, it’s the hardest and most rewarding job that I have ever had.”

According to an anonymous source, the pair have since managed to put their troubles behind them. The insider told Entertainment Tonight, “Although Kim and Kourtney had a blowout fight on last night’s episode of KUWTK, the sisters are fine and back on good terms. They were able to discuss their differences and although they don’t agree on how each handles things, they respect one another.”
